Visual created for my carte blanche collaboration with the city of Monthey last June.

I had been wanting to get back to my basics for a while, those that mix hand-drawn typography and refined illustrations.

When I started to imagine this project, I quite clearly imagined the city in three layers in connection with its geography.

The first, the plain, the place of its industry symbolized by the candle (creative flame) and its arboreal and calm areas.

The second, its lively urban center close to the river, and its third upper part, which provides access to the surrounding mountains, havens for hikers.

This division of the word Monthey into three parts and the integration

of symbolic elements which represent well this city were then imagined to be animated around two compositions of letters in a desire to best integrate hand animation and typography.
